Scarlet Arrow
A limited edition graphic art print featuring the Macchi MC72, an extraordinary racing seaplane designed in the early 1930s to compete for the Schneider Trophy, an international air race for seaplanes. Built by Aeronautica Macchi, the MC72 was an Italian attempt to claim dominance in high-speed flight.
Though it missed the 1931 Schneider Trophy race, the Italian team continued refining the aircraft. On October 23, 1934, pilot Francesco Agello flew the MC72 to a world speed record of 709.2 km/h (440.7 mph) over water—an achievement that still stands today as the fastest speed ever recorded by a piston-engine seaplane.
